Intermec RC3250
Intermec

This network gateway connects wireless networks to their host-based application systems. It supports both UHF and 902 MHz spread spectrum networks providing a migration path for customers as their throughput needs increase. The RC3250 provides connectivity from wireless hand-helds using 3270, 5250 or Norand Native datastream to communicate with application hosts.

The RC3250 is the centerpiece of the Norand UHF hub and spoke architecture. It also provides host connectivity as a gateway component in the Norand 902 MHz spread spectrum wireless network. The RC3250 helps to form the backbone of the Norand Wireless Network architecture.

The reliably built controller addresses the needs of customers. It is resistant to hostile environments and provides ease of installation and operation, minimizing the cost of ownership.

Offers a Range of Host Connectivity Options
The RC3250 can be connected to any host system that supports SNA interactive terminals. Host systems that support 3270 SNA (3278-2 display stations on 3174 or 3274 controllers), like IBM mainframes, can now serve as hosts for wireless applications. Connectivity of 5250 SNA (5251 display stations on 5394 or 5294 controllers) is also supported.

The RC3250 supports a total of 64 high-speed SNA sessions. A range of SDLC options is available, from RS232 up to 38.4 Kbps to V.35 at 64 Kbps. Direct, remote, point-to-point and multipoint connections are supported. The Norand implementation of 3270 and 5250 support allows you to run existing applications, as well as build new ones for your RF terminals utilizing existing set of tools.

The Norand Native Mode for connection to personal computers and workstations is offered over RS232 up to 38.4 Kbps. The RC3250 can support up to 127 Native Mode RF terminals. Norand Native Mode employs features like prompt response and tabling to bring the efficiencies of block mode terminals to async character mode applications.

The RC3250 supports the capability to concurrently connect the wireless network to two host computers for UHF applications. For spread spectrum application, through only one host supported per controller, the wireless system network architecture allows multiple controllers on the LAN backbone.

Network Management
The RC3250, whether used in a UHF system or 902 MHz spread spectrum system, collects statistics for network management. These statistics serve to monitor such things as response time, host time outs and other network parameters. The controller then forwards this information to an optional management station.

High Reliability and Serviceability
All mechanical components, like diskette drives and fans, have been removed, enhancing the reliability of the RC3250. The enclosure resists dust and humidity, making it ideal for a wide range of operational environments found in today's wireless applications. The external power supply can be changed easily and quickly. In addition, supplies are available that meet 230 VAC as well as 120 VAC requirements.
